Travel Image ~ Mandala Ceiling ~ Rameswaram, India
The Ramanathaswamy Temple on an island at the tip of India is dedicated to Shiva. Here Shiva is worshipped as a pillar of light. Legend says that Lord Rama installed the Shiva Linga at the temple. This is a sacred space of cleansing & purification. There are 64 heavenly body of water in and around the temple. You can bathe is 14 of these heavenly bodies of water for purification. As you move from heavnely body of water to holy body of water you are showered with a purifying bucket of water. I loved this ritual & am reminded of the importance of ritual in our lives.
